PBL member Alan Morton has this to say about the photography course:

"In 17 years of real estate one of my pet hates has been the generally average quality of photography taken by agents.   We recently undertook Orlando's "Take control of your camera" course and I have to say that the mystique of how our Canon 400D works has now been simplified with the much improved end result for our clients and a far better presentation of our photos. This course is simply a must for any agent who needs to take property photos and currently uses " AUTO" settings.

Finally a Plain English explanation of cameras and photography!!!

Thanks Orlando"

Using Photographs
to Sell a Product or Service

We have all heard the truism, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Despite this saying being in our language for the better part of a millennium, its importance is often overlooked when pictures are used to sell (or unwittingly sabotage) a business.

Unfortunately true stories:

Botox ad depicting a mature woman looking at the camera (and thus the viewer) with a palpable expression of distrust and fear.

A spiritual healer uses a photograph of her standing under a tree but a dark shadow of a branch crosses her face, hiding her eyes. Her investment in marketing collateral does not go well.

Against the advice of a web developer, a business owner gives the photography job to a relative. The web developer is
dismayed by the result (no amount of photoshop could rescue the photos) but his pain was eased by the $2,000 retouch bill.

In selling, facts and figures are important. So are photographs that communicate the right information and emotion
for the brief. Major ad agencies know this, and well and truly exploit it for the benefit of their clients.

The impact of photography on sales has been measured by test websites that sells identical products with alternatively professional and amateur images. The metrics are loud and clear. The site with professional images delivers:

  • more sales enquiries
  • more sales volume
  • higher prices.

This is the business trifecta, the benefits of which I do not need to explain further.
